Chapter 1.
Africa has witnessed much less archeological research than any other country in the world, which could mean that they could be signs of earlier human-like mammals that yet needs to be discovered. Homo sapiens first emerged around 250,000 to 200,000 thousand years ago. These type of mammals were human-like following in the footsteps of other species before it. Human began to get smarter and smarter and decided to migrate to new environments within Africa, such as forests and deserts. The migration did not just stop there, between 100,000 and 60,000 years ago, humans began to migrates to other countries such as the middle east and Europe. Migration and habituating of new environments became something that happen every few thousands of years. The last phase of the great human migration took place in the Pacific Ocean. Places like Philippines, Madagascar, Indonesia and many more areas were migrated to.
The low technology that the early Human Societies had only kept the population of small groups. The groups were said to have 25-50 people. There were two different groups of people that split jobs to accommodated on what was needed. Some were gathers and other hunters. The men hunted, while the females gathers, but according to Strayer, "Found that plants, normally gather by women, provided 70 percent of the diet, while meat, hunted by men, accounted for just 30 percent"(21). Woman and men were more equal back than, then they are now.
Prolouge
Life began first with the stars being created 4.7 billion years ago. Through out the years life on earth has been and remains both fragile and resilient. Many animals that were roaming the world have been whipped out because of a natural disaster or because they can not survive the changing environment. One set of animals have made a huge impact on the earth and are constantly changing to the environment. Humans adapt and change depends on the environment. For example, Strayer states, "Twenty-first-century chimpanzees in the wild master the same skills as their ancestors did a million years ago"(lix). Many animals master the same thing while humans are adapting and changing. Humans went from stone axes to laser and from spears to nuclear weapons. A huge and significant difference.
Overall humanity and the world has change. It feels like if the species does not change to adapt to a certain way, than it could only led to the termination or extinction of the species. Adapting is the key to survival.
